This is my 15th year at Bushland Elementary! Go Blackhawks!! I came here from Woodlands Elementary in 2008 and taught 1st grade my first year. I moved to kindergarten the next year and got to teach and love those precious 5 and 6 year olds for 7 wonderful years. In 2017 I was given the amazing opportunity to take an intervention position working with students with dyslexia. While a little apprehensive about leaving the classroom, I felt the Lord calling me to this position….this ministry. I am now starting my 6th year and I love working with these struggling readers that have so much to offer this world! They surprise and amaze me every single day! I also do all of the dyslexia assessments for our elementary campus. In 2020 I decided to get out of my comfort zone and further my education. After two years of challenging, but wonderful course work, I recently became a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT). I am super excited about this accomplishment and the knowledge I gained during this training. When we stretch ourselves, we grow! :)
I taught 2nd grade for two years right out of college in McCamey, TX. I started having babies and decided to move back to Amarillo where our family was and I was a stay at home mom for the next 10 years. For 5 of those years, I worked part-time at Kid University Preschool teaching in their PreK program. When I was ready to go back to public school, I first became a TAKS tutor at Whittier Elementary and then got a part-time teaching position in their PreK. The next year I went full time and moved to Woodlands Elementary teaching kindergarten there for the next 3 years. Then…. I decided I’d love to be a Blackhawk! :)
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Kyle, for 29 years. We have 3 boys that we chased around from sporting event to sporting event, but now find ourselves with an empty nest. All 3 graduated from Bushland High School and loved being a Falcon! My oldest got married in November, so I finally have another girl in the family! :) My middle lives and works here in Amarillo and my youngest is in Lubbock at Texas Tech. Go Red Raiders! We are also dog parents to two fur babies that we love so much! We live in Amarillo and are currently building a house in River Falls that should be finished after the first of the year. We’re pretty excited about that!
When I’m not teaching I enjoy traveling with my husband, hanging out with our friends, playing games, patio sitting in the backyard, taking our dogs for a walk, and decorating anything...my house, for holidays, cookies, etc. :) I am also an Independent Optavia Health Coach. I love serving others, helping them get to a healthy weight, have more energy, and incorporate healthy habits. :)
